A time to gather, and a time to purge. I have definitely deleted more notes and files in the last few weeks then I have created. This is fine: if I never take another note for the rest of my life, I will have enough reference material to write content until the day I die. There's a temptation to think that we have to keep not only collecting, but linking, synthesizing, and creating in order to feel productive. What as much as collector's fallacy is a thing, I think too many people assume that that is just referring to Web clippers and the like. But going through old ideas and sifting through and getting rid of things and cleaning them up so that you have only useful things to hand is as valuable in a digital notebook as a physical one. My favorite thing about bullet journaling is that once you fill up the notebook you can move on to the next notebook and you only bring over the things that matter so you have a clean work surface to work from. I've really embraced fleeting notes and having a clean paperwork space with discbound notebooks which were not a thing when I was a kid and I'm kind of bitter about because they are amazing.
