Hey friends,
If you’ve been with me since the early days, I finally figured out how to tell Substack to comp you a premium subscription_._ Sorry for the delay!
In any case, this is mostly just a ~~quick~~ thank you. At some point, you financially supported either _Eleanor’s Iceberg_ or _The Obsidian Roundup —_ or maybe even the _Obsidian Iceberg,_ once they merged. Well, either that or you’re a family member or close friend. Regardless, your support provided a lot of motivation to keep writing even when it was hard, helped me deal with hosting fees, and let me hire developers to help me deal with some genuinely insane problems related to running the newsletter.
So now that I’m ramping back up, getting involved in Obsidian’s Discord again, dipping my toes back into writing fiction again, & picking up my research projects where they left off… I want to say that I’m really sorry that I wasn’t able to do much while I was pregnant. To be a lot more candid than I normally am online, I had a pretty nasty mental health crisis about a year ago, mostly due to job-related burnout but the pregnancy hormones really exacerbated things. I’m recovered, but part of that recovery is dealing with the mess I left myself — and the stuff I wasn’t able to follow through on earlier.
Moving to Substack and getting posts published and scheduled was stage one. Doing right by you all is stage two. It needs to be something sustainable for me — three articles a week with one-day turnarounds is not viable unfortunately — but I wanted to ask:
What do you most want to see? Some ideas I had were:
I’ve still got a 2 month old baby at home so I don’t think I’ll be able to do anything like one-on-one meetings, and I don’t have [Nick Milo’s skills with making slick and beautiful videos](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm4755935/), but I _do_ want to make the last few months up to you… and also say thank you to the folks who signed up for a paid subscription here at Substack even without any “special perks” attached.
I don’t normally post pictures of my kids online, but the aforementioned baby is pretty cute.
So if there’s anything not in the poll that you’d like to see, feel free to reply to this email or leave a comment where others can see it & offer their thoughts as well.
